Paletra Privacy Policy
Paletra is an app that helps you find dishes and restaurants that suit you. This policy explains what information is processed when you use Paletra, what it is used for, who it is shared with, and the choices you have.
Paletra is operated by Luka Rolik Gıda Sanayi Ticaret Limited Şirketi (Siteler Mah. 9 Eylül Cad. No: 11, İç Kapı No: 5, Aliağa / İzmir, Türkiye — info@paletra.net). For the detailed notice required by Turkish data protection law, see the KVKK Information Notice.
In short
- The scores you give and what you mark "Not for me" are private. Restaurants cannot see them per person; they see only anonymous, aggregated results.
- Your step count and active energy do not leave your phone. Paletra does not send them to its servers or store them.
- Your location is used on your phone; your coordinates are not stored.
- The app has no advertising and no third-party tracking software. We do not sell your data.
- Your data is processed on the servers of service providers working on Paletra's behalf (chiefly Google Firebase); those servers are outside Türkiye.
- You can delete your account and your data yourself, inside the app.
1. Your account information
- If you sign in with email, Google or Apple: your email address, your sign-in method and the name that provider shares are processed. Paletra never sees your password; it is held in hashed form by our authentication provider.
- If you continue as a guest: no name or email is asked for; only a user identifier that recognises the session on your device is created. The preferences and records you enter as a guest are stored against that identifier, and are kept if you later create an account.
- Your profile: your first and last name and — only if you choose — your date of birth. Your date of birth is used only to determine your zodiac sign; if you do not enter it, nothing zodiac-related is shown.
- We do not ask for a phone number to open an account.
2. Personalisation: how Paletra gets to know you
Your recommendations rest on:
- What you tell us: the cuisines you like, your diet, your allergies, ingredients you dislike, your spice tolerance, proteins and cooking methods you like, the character traits you pick.
- What you do: "Liked", "Not for me" (and the reason you pick), "Tried", favourites, the scores you give, the meals you mark "I ate this".
Viewing a dish or scanning a QR code says nothing about your taste; your recommendations do not change because of them.
The ranking is done by fixed rules running on your device; no data is sent to an artificial-intelligence service. Dishes that the restaurant has declared to contain an ingredient you listed as an allergy are not recommended to you. Your zodiac sign is the lowest-weighted factor in the ranking.
Your Taste Map is a summary of this information shown to you; it is computed on your device and not stored separately. With "Reset learned taste data" you can make Paletra start again on what it learned from your behaviour.
3. Your private feedback
- The scores you give dishes and restaurants, what you mark "Not for me" and your reasons are visible only to you.
- Restaurants cannot see who gave them. Once there is enough feedback, a restaurant is shown anonymous, aggregated results.
- If you choose to share a like on a dish with the community, only then can other users see it.
- If you write a private note to a restaurant, the text of your note is passed to that restaurant; a note does not change your score or any public review.
4. Your Taste Journey and badges
Your badges and the counts behind them (such as how many different dishes you marked "I ate this") are computed on Paletra's server from your own records and are visible only to you. If you choose to show a badge on your profile, the public record holds only that badge's name and tier.
5. Health and "My Paletra"
"My Paletra" is optional; it does not run unless you turn it on.
- What we store: your water log; the water, step and calorie targets you set yourself; the goal type you chose; your reminder settings; the meals you mark "I ate this". These are visible only to you; not even Paletra's admin console has a screen for viewing them.
- What we do not store: if you allow Apple Health or Health Connect, Paletra only reads your daily step count and active energy, shows them on your screen and lets them go. These values are not sent to Paletra's servers, not stored, and not shared with restaurants or anyone else. Paletra writes nothing to those services.
- What we do not ask for: weight, height, heart rate, sleep, test results, medical records.
- Calories: a meal's calories are recorded only if the restaurant declared them. With no declaration they stay "unknown"; they are not estimated and not counted as zero.
- Your allergies are stored in your profile for your safety. They do not appear in your public profile, in information that goes to restaurants, or in usage records.
Paletra is not a health, diet or medical advice service.
6. Location
- If you grant location permission, Paletra uses your location only while the app is open: to show nearby restaurants and distances, and to confirm you are there when you tap "I'm here".
- Your location is used on your phone. Your coordinates are not sent to our servers and not stored. Paletra does not collect location in the background.
- When you tap "I'm here", what is stored is: which restaurant you are at, the time, the visibility you chose and — if a verification was made — a coarse distance band.
- You can use Paletra without granting location permission; distances are simply not shown.
7. Reservations and pre-orders
When you make a reservation, your name, phone number, party size, date and time, your note and your special requests are passed to that restaurant, because they prepare your table. If you pre-order, the items you chose and your note are passed on too. No payment is taken through Paletra; no card data is processed.
8. Community
- Your reviews and comments are visible to other users. Reviews do not show a public score.
- If you turn on Compare taste, your name, the cuisines you like, your diet and your taste axes become visible to other users. When it is off, they are not. Your allergies are never shared.
- When you tap "I'm here", you choose whether other Paletra users at the restaurant see you by first name only or anonymously.
- Meetups, polls, follows and likes are visible as far as the feature requires.
- If you become a Paletra Guide, your profile and your guides are public. Your contact details are visible only if you choose to publish them.
9. Content you upload
Images you add to guides are published publicly and are deleted when you delete the guide. A photograph you take or pick to scan a menu is read on your phone; it is not uploaded to our servers.
10. Notifications
- Water reminders are scheduled on your phone; they are not sent through a server.
- If you allow notifications, your device's notification token, its operating system type, language setting and your notification preferences are stored. You can choose which kinds of notification you receive in Settings, or turn them off altogether.
11. QR codes and menus from outside Paletra
When you scan a Paletra QR code, the camera image is processed on your phone and takes you to the restaurant's page. When a menu link that does not belong to Paletra is scanned — if that feature is on — the public menu page at that link is read by Paletra's server; neither your identity nor your location is passed to the menu site. Menu information read this way belongs to the business concerned, not to Paletra, and may be out of date.
12. Usage records
To understand how the service is used and to give restaurants aggregated statistics, a record of some actions (such as viewing a restaurant or a dish) is kept in Paletra's own database. These records are not sent to any third-party analytics or advertising company. The app does not collect an advertising identifier.
13. Security
Your data travels over an encrypted connection. Who may read each record is limited by access rules on the server; for example, only you can read your health records. To confirm the app is genuine, the attestation services of your device's operating-system provider (Google Play Integrity, Apple App Attest) are used. No system is entirely free of risk; if you suspect a security problem, write to info@paletra.net.
14. Service providers
To run Paletra we work with the service providers below. They process your data on our behalf and on our instructions:
- Google (Firebase) — Sign-in and accounts, database, file storage, server functions, notification delivery, app attestation
- Google — Sign in with Google
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, iOS notification delivery, device attestation
- Our website hosting provider — Publishing the paletra.net site
In addition, as described above, your reservation and pre-order details are passed to the restaurant concerned. Restaurants are responsible for their own privacy practices in respect of their own records.
We do not sell or rent your data to other companies for advertising or marketing. We may share it with competent authorities where the law requires us to.
15. Where your data is processed
Paletra's database and server functions run in Google's data centres in the European Union (Germany and Belgium). Sign-in, notification and attestation services may also use Google's and Apple's systems in other countries. Your data is therefore processed outside Türkiye.
16. How long we keep your data
We keep your data for as long as your account is open. Records you delete are deleted.
17. Your choices
- You can change your profile, preferences and allergies at any time.
- You can delete individual likes, scores, meals, water entries and reviews.
- You can turn "My Paletra" off, and delete the "My Paletra" data Paletra stores without deleting your account.
- You can reset what Paletra learned from your behaviour.
- You can turn off taste comparison and badge display.
- You can withdraw location, camera, notification and health permissions in your phone's settings.
- You can exercise your rights under KVKK (to information, correction, deletion, objection and the others) via info@paletra.net.
18. Deleting your account
You can delete your account inside the app: Profile → Account and sign-in → Delete my account. Deletion happens at once and cannot be undone. What is deleted, and what remains stripped of your identity, is explained on the Account Deletion page. If you cannot access the app, write to info@paletra.net.
19. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The current text is published in the app (Settings → Privacy Policy) and at https://paletra.net/privacy; the date at the top shows the latest update. For significant changes we will inform you in the app.
